"Thank you for taking the time to post your page on the demise of The Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American History, permanent exhibition of American Printing History. As the Printer and Designer here at Massey College (part of the University of Toronto) where we house a fairly comprehensive collection of Iron Hand Presses, I know first hand the joy people express when they walk into the shop and smell the ink and see the presses for the first time. While I know the NMAH exhibit was not operational, I understand from all who saw it that it was very impressive (no pun intended). Having never had a chance to visit it myself, I am doubley saddened as I'll likely not ever get a chance. So I thank you again for posting the pictures, which, although they are not the real thing, are certainly better than nothing at all." |
